Etelcalcetide
Etelcalcetide is a novel calcimimetic agent (CalcimeticAgent) that was developed for use in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment by intravenous administration.AMG416 binds to and activates calcium-sensitive receptors on the parathyroid glands, which results in the achievement of reduced parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels.FDA Approval of the Novel Calcimimetic Agent Viracetam for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in adult patients on hemodialysis, the first drug approved for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in dialysis patients in 12 years. PTH levels were significantly reduced in hemodialysis patients with moderate-to-severe hyperparathyroidism treated with viracetam.
