Terlipressin acetate API

Terlipressin is a new type of synthetic long-acting vasopressin preparation, belonging to a precursor drug, itself inactive, in vivo by the action of aminopeptidase, to remove its N-terminal 3 glycyl residues, slowly “release” the active lysine pressin. It is this “slow release” mechanism that allows it to maintain smooth muscle contraction for up to 10 hours after a single administration, whereas the activity of vasopressin at the same dose can only be maintained for 20-40 minutes. On the other hand, due to the slow enzymatic release, circulating lysopressin does not reach toxic levels, making terlipressin safe to use.
